FAQs

What is the new vision for the Chateau Ste. Michelle property?
An exciting, multi-year planning process is underway to enhance our Chateau Ste. Michelle property in Woodinville, reflecting our commitment to evolve our grounds into a modern, vibrant, multi-faceted winery destination, ensuring it is an even better experience for our guests to enjoy throughout the year.

Our plans include a renovated tasting room, a boutique hotel, new restaurants and retail, improvements to the concert venue, expanded parking, and new low-scale housing along the outskirts of the property.

Our beloved Chateau, along with all other historic buildings, will remain – forever a reminder of our storied history in the Woodinville community for almost five decades.

Why is Chateau Ste. Michelle enhancing its Woodinville property now?
Since we founded the Washington wine region 90 years ago, Ste. Michelle has continued to grow, evolve and take bold steps in our mission to craft award-winning Washington wines and deliver world-class wine experiences. We want to continue to build towards our future by investing in wine quality and delivering a modern, vibrant, winery destination that guests can enjoy for decades to come.

I thought Chateau Ste. Michelle was sold and possibly leaving Woodinville. Is that not the case?
Ste. Michelle was one of the first wineries to establish its roots in Washington, and we chose Woodinville as our home for the flagship Chateau Ste. Michelle winery nearly 50 years ago. We are here to stay. The winery has not been sold. Chateau Ste. Michelle is part of our Ste. Michelle Wine Estates portfolio of leading Pacific Northwest wines including 14 Hands, Columbia Crest, Spring Valley and Northstar in Washington and Erath and A to Z in Oregon.

What is the development timeline for the property?
When will construction begin? We expect the Site Plan Review process with the City of Woodinville to continue through 2025, with groundbreaking sometime in 2026.

Will the historic Chateau and the other buildings stay on the property?
Yes, our iconic Chateau will be the focal point of our enhanced Woodinville property. Our other historic buildings onsite, the Manor House and Carriage House, will also remain – forever a reminder of our storied history in the Woodinville community since 1976.

How tall will new buildings be?
All new plans will be built within the property’s existing 45-foot height limit.

Can you share more details about the proposed new housing?
Our plans include adding 90 single-family home sites along the hillside of the western portion of the property. The 65-acre parcel will set aside 31 acres as a natural greenbelt. The single-family home site is not accessed through the primary Chateau grounds.

I thought new apartments were being proposed. Did that change?
Yes, we had contemplated that option early on, but are now focused on a lower-scale site plan.

Can you share more about the potential hotel?
We plan to add a boutique 120-room hotel and look forward to sharing more details about a hotel partner in the future.

Do you plan to have other winery tasting rooms onsite once development is finished?
We will explore potentially including other tastings rooms as part of the enhanced wine, culinary and retail experience.

How will the concert venue change?
We plan to expand and modernize our popular concert venue space from 4,300 seats to a 5,800-seat open-air venue, with a variety of new viewing options, including individual seats, VIP suites and lawn seating. We hope to make the concert venue a space that can be enjoyed beyond the summer season.

Will there be more parking to accommodate these new property uses?
Yes, we will have 1,322 new parking stalls throughout the property, including expanded concert parking.

How can the public share their input?
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at: feedback@growingthechateau.com. We have also set up a community website to share our plans at: www.growingthechateau.com.

Will wine club member perks onsite change as a result of development of the property?
We will continue to create benefits to reward our most loyal ambassadors and are looking into opportunities to enhance Club member’s experience with the evolution of our property.

How will this enhancement to the property impact traffic on 145th street?
We are still working through our traffic studies and will have more information on this in the future.

Can we still come to the Chateau for picnics on the lawn?
Yes, we are working on space for guests to gather and relax as part of the new space.
